Today is a very momdrum day so I thought it would be a good time to explain why I chose to call my blog that in the first place. Here's the thing...being a mom is never dull. Dull implies that nothing happens, things are dreary, and in my mind it means you sit around a lot with a blank expression on your face. SO not what motherhood is like. It's more like a whirlwind of things happening without anything new to speak of (at least nothing that non moms generally want to hear about. i.e. baby took first step, baby spit up ten times today, etc.) , loads of bright colours and giggles and smiles (therefore the exact opposite of "dreary"), and it's very hard to maintain a blank expression when your child is constantly full of new ones. Plus, there is almost no time to sit around when your a mom. Neither is motherhood ever boring. Watching a child develop is to incredible to be termed boring.
However, although being a mom is not dull or boring, it IS monotonous. Or momotonous as I like to call it. And there doesn't seem to be a proper word to describe the feeling you get after hours of having unintelligible conversations, changing a diaper only to have it dirty again, washing ten loads of laundry only to find you will have to wash it all again tomorrow, doing dishes you did yesterday, and playing itsy bitsy spider for the seven hundredth time.
So I made up a word. The momdrums. The momdrums are what you get those days when everything your doing has been done ten times already and will be repeated another eight. For the days when your stuck inside because it's raining, or the babies sick, or your simply to sleep deprived to go out. The momdrums is what you get from momotony. The momdrums are what I have today.
